ANUNT DIN PARTEA U.I.A. IN AJUTORUL CONFRATILOR DIN UCRAINA

Friday, 04 March 2022

Dear Presidents of National Committees and Regional Committees,

Dear Collective Members,

As we all are aware, the situation in Ukraine is beyond words and worsening every day. Many of our Ukrainian legal colleagues and/or their families have fled Ukraine to other countries, and many more are leaving every day.  When these refugees - most of whom are women and children, as men are now not allowed to leave Ukraine - arrive in another country, they need legal aid as they navigate the various immigration frameworks. They also will need help with transport from borders, temporary or permanent housing accommodation, child care, health care, etc.

In light of the dire situation, we are asking each of you to establish a national, regional or local task force to coordinate aid to the Ukranian lawyers and their families in your respective countries.  Each task force can coordinate volunteers – be they individuals or organizations, UIA members or non-members – who are available to provide aid to these refugees.  As an example, in Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, and Spain colleagues have established close cooperation channels to address immediate personal and legal requests for colleagues and others.

Of course, time is of the essence, as these refugees need our help now.

On a more general scale, colleagues from Ukraine have directed us to this site, which provides updated information where national committees or collective members can channel financial or in-kind help:

We are also in touch with the Ukrainian National Bar Association and will let you know shortly what their direct needs are.

Thank you so much in advance for making this initiative a priority.

Please don’t hesitate to contact any of the undersigned directly, if you have any questions. Also please let us know what programmes or initiatives you put in place so that we can direct any inquiries appropriately.
